Diversity initiatives in Research for Underrepresented Minorities (DRUM)
Since its inception in 2001, through grant funding from the University of Pennsylvania, DRUM has been able to directly introduce over 60 under- represented students to the career possibilities that await them in the field of biostatistics and data management.
Over the years DRUM has built an extensive network of contacts both in the local Philadelphia neighborhoods and Universities nation-wide;especially those that tend to serve minorities. These connections provide a consistent feed of young enthusiastic minds eager to explore the possibilities that exist in data management and statistics.
Specifically, the Diversity initiative in Research for Under-represented Minorities (D.R.U.M) is a program aimed at offering seminars, workshops, and internship opportunities to undergraduate and high school students, with an emphasis on including under-represented minorities. The main objective of this program is to expose students to several research and academic disciplines in the field of biomedical research.
